Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a main contractor for the remodel/ refurbishment of the Library to provide a state of the art facility which meets the Universitys strategic international aspirations. We are seeking a Contractor with prior experience of works in occupied premises over a phased period.
The Library constitutes 14,500 m² of space which is comprised of the original 1967 building with an extension which was built in 1996.
The 1967 building (8,328 m²) is to be fully refurbished whilst the 1996 wing (4,629 m²) will have a lighter refurbishment, the whole refurbishment will take place in phases to enable the building to remain operational throughout the work.
The refurbishment will commence on site in summer 2014 and it is estimated that with a phased approach it will take up to 2 years to complete.
Under this project it is possible the contractor and its supply chain will be required to actively participate in the achievement of social objectives relating to participation in skills development, employment and training programmes utilising the CITB National Skills Academy.
The Contractors who reach tender stage will be asked to take part in an interview/ presentation which will be judged by key stakeholders and senior management within the University.

Description of particular conditions: Under this project the contractor and its supply chain may be required to actively participate in the achievement of social objectives relating to participation in skills development, employment and training programmes and other added value contributions by the contractor and its supply chain in order to support community programmes promoted by Lancaster University. Accordingly the contract performance conditions may relate in particular to secondary considerations.

Objective criteria for choosing the limited number of candidates: A pre-qualification questionnaire will be issued to shortlist the interested suppliers.
