The population of South Oxfordshire is projected to see a significant increase over coming years, much of which will be centred in Didcot given its 2007 classification as a government new growth point. To support this growth, the adopted South Oxfordshire core strategy 2027 makes provision for a new neighbourhood, incorporating adequate high quality sports, leisure, cultural and health facilities, in north-east Didcot.
The leisure development will comprise of the design and construction of a new leisure centre to cater for the requirements of Didcot's increasing population and address some of the deficits that have been identified as a result of this. The new facility is to be iconic, not only in terms of design, but also the mix and range of facilities it offers. It should inspire the people of Didcot and the wider community to participate in sport and physical activity in a safe and attractive environment in order to enhance their health and well-being.
The multi-disciplinary design consultant will take the design to RIBA Stage C, through Stage D and E, and to the production of pre-construction tender documentation. Some initial feasibility work may be required. A yet to be appointed company will undertake construction, with the multi-disciplinary consultant remaining in place as monitoring consultant and technical advisor.
The multi-disciplinary consultant team will consist of:
- a full lead consultant role;
- a full Architect role;
- a full civil and structural engineering role;
- a full building services role;
- a full geotechnical engineering role;
- a full public health engineering role;
